# Installation

> Install NOMN REMOTE on macOS (VST3, Audio Unit, Standalone) or Windows (VST3, Standalone)

# Installation

## System requirements

| | macOS | Windows |
| - | - | - |
| **OS** | macOS 13 or later (Apple Silicon and Intel, one universal build) | Windows, 64-bit (x64) |
| **Formats** | VST3, Audio Unit (AU), Standalone | VST3, Standalone |
| **DAW** | any VST3 or AU host | any 64-bit VST3 host |

The host has to give the plugin the same layout on its input and output. For bandwidth, see [Network](/remote/reference/network). Listeners need only a current browser; see [The listener page](/remote/listening/listener-page).

## Download

Download the latest NOMN REMOTE for macOS or Windows from [nomn.jp](https://nomn.jp).

## Install on macOS

Run the installer. It places the plugin files in the standard locations:

| Format | Location |
| - | - |
| **VST3** | `~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/NOMN REMOTE.vst3` |
| **AU** | `~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/NOMN REMOTE.component` |
| **Standalone** | `/Applications/NOMN REMOTE.app` |

## Install on Windows

The Windows download is a zip (`NOMN-REMOTE-<version>-Windows.zip`) holding the VST3 plugin and the Standalone app, both code-signed. Unzip it and copy each to its place:

| Format | Copy to |
| - | - |
| **VST3** | the `NOMN REMOTE.vst3` folder into `C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\` |
| **Standalone** | `NOMN REMOTE.exe` anywhere you like (for example `C:\Program Files\NOMN\`) |

Copy the whole `NOMN REMOTE.vst3` folder, then rescan plug-ins in your DAW.

The plugin appears in your DAW under the manufacturer **NOMN** on both systems.

## Where to insert it

NOMN REMOTE streams whatever reaches its input, and its own output is the input unchanged. Insert it as the last plugin on the track or bus you want listeners to hear: a stereo mix bus, a 7.1.4 bus, a click and cue track, or an ambisonic bus.

The plugin accepts these bus layouts, with the same layout on input and output:

| Family | Layouts |
| - | - |
| Mono and stereo | mono, 2.0 |
| Surround | 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 5.1, 7.0, 7.1 |
| With heights | 5.0.2, 5.1.2, 5.0.4, 5.1.4, 7.0.2, 7.1.2, 7.0.4, 7.1.4, 7.0.6, 7.1.6 |
| With wides | 9.0.4, 9.1.4, 9.0.6, 9.1.6 |
| Ambisonics | first, second and third order (ACN channel order, SN3D) |
| Numbered | any other bus of 1 to 16 channels, streamed by channel number |

### Logic Pro

1. Open **Logic Pro → Settings → Audio Units** if the plugin does not appear; Logic scans AU plugins on launch.
2. Insert **NOMN → NOMN REMOTE** on the track or bus, in the same channel format as the track.

### Ableton Live

1. Open **Settings → Plug-Ins**, enable **VST3** (on Windows, **Use VST3 Plug-In System Folders**) and rescan.
2. Insert NOMN REMOTE from **Plug-Ins → NOMN** on the track or on the Main track.

### Reaper

1. Open **Preferences → Plug-Ins → VST** and rescan.
2. Insert NOMN REMOTE from **FX → VST3**. For a multichannel stream, set the track's channel count first so the plugin is given the full layout.

### Other VST3 hosts on Windows

1. Make sure `C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\` is in the host's VST3 search path, and rescan.
2. Insert NOMN REMOTE on the track or bus, in the same channel format as the track.

## Standalone

The Standalone app streams the audio inputs you choose (interface inputs, or a loopback device carrying another application's output). **LAYOUT**, a row above ENCODE AS in the Standalone only, sets the layout it streams, from mono to 9.1.6 and ambisonics, or numbered channels from 3 ch to 16 ch. Choosing one reopens the audio device with that many inputs, counted from the first input enabled in the app's audio settings, and the app remembers the choice for its next launch. A layout needs as many inputs as it has channels: on a device with too few the row says so (**7.1.4 NEEDS 12 INPUTS · DEVICE HAS 8**) and the layout stays as it was. Stereo also works from a single input, such as a laptop microphone, which feeds both sides. LAYOUT is fixed while streaming.

macOS asks for microphone permission the first time it opens an input; the app needs it to read any audio input, and it sends that audio only to the listeners in your session. On Windows, the input is available when **Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone** allows desktop apps to use it.

## Uninstall

Delete the files from the locations listed above. To clear the licence first, open the licence dialog and press **Remove License**.
