# Mixing in the DAW

Several NOMN REMOTE sessions can be mixed in one DAW. Each session plays on a track of its own through a NOMN REMOTE in [RECEIVE](/remote/receiving/receive), you mix them with the DAW's faders, sends and plugins, and a NOMN REMOTE in SEND on the master streams the mix to your own listeners.

## Set it up

1. Make one track for each session, in the layout you want that session to arrive in.
2. Insert NOMN REMOTE on each track, switch it to **RECEIVE**, paste that session's listener link and press **RECEIVE**.
3. Mix the tracks as you would any others.
4. Insert NOMN REMOTE in **SEND** as the last plugin on the master (or on the bus that carries the mix), press **START**, and send its link.

Each receive track is independent of the others: one that loses its connection or counts a dropout leaves the rest playing.

## Keeping the tracks in step

On its own, each receive track waits as long as its buffer needs (see [Delay and drift](/remote/receiving/receive#delay-and-drift)), so two tracks can sit tens of milliseconds apart and move as their buffers adjust. **ALIGN**, in the OUTPUT row, holds a track's delay at a value you set, from 300 to 800 ms, to within 1 ms, and keeps it there after a dropout. Type the value, or drag the box up and down in 10 ms steps.

Set every receive track to the same ALIGN value and they play in step, each following its own sender's clock. With ALIGN on, the card's **DELAY** row reads, for example, **450.1 MS · HELD AT 450**; with it off, **312 MS · AUTOMATIC, TARGET 300**. ALIGN is saved with your DAW session.

ALIGN holds the time a stream waits inside the plugin. The network delay before it is outside what the plugin can measure, so two senders far apart still arrive at different times, and a track offset in the DAW can take up the difference. If an aligned track counts dropouts, raise ALIGN on every track by the same amount.

## Feeding a mix back into itself

Pasting the master send's own link into a receive track would stream the mix back into itself. RECEIVE refuses that link with **THIS DAW SENDS THAT SESSION: RECEIVING IT WOULD FEED BACK**. A receive track that is already playing a session when this DAW starts sending it goes silent with **HELD · THIS DAW SENDS THIS SESSION (A LOOP)**, counts no dropouts while held, and plays again when the send stops.

The check covers the plugins in this DAW. A loop through a second computer, or through plugins your DAW runs in a separate process, is outside what it can see.

## Cost

Each received session is billed to its sender, with your receive track counted as one of its listeners. The mix you send from the master is billed to your licence like any session you start. See [Pricing](/remote/reference/pricing).
