Troubleshooting

No sound

The footer reads Unlicensed. CHAKRABOOST mutes its output until a trial or licence key is active. Click the footer and enter your key; see Licensing. The trial has ended. When a trial expires the output goes silent and the footer returns to Unlicensed. Enter a purchased licence key to continue. The footer reads Revoked. The licence server has withdrawn the key and the output is muted. Enter another key in the licence dialog, or contact support through nomn.jp. Every band is soloed off or muted. Check the lanes on the left for SOLO ACTIVE above them, and press CLEAR. A muted band stays silent even when it is soloed.

The plugin does not appear in my host

  • On macOS, check that CHAKRABOOST.vst3 is in ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/ and CHAKRABOOST.component is in ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/. On Windows, check that CHAKRABOOST.vst3 is in C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\.
  • Quit the host completely and reopen it, then rescan plugins.
  • In Logic Pro, open the Plug-in Manager and reset and rescan CHAKRABOOST if it failed validation.
  • Running install.sh again resets the macOS Audio Unit cache.

Activation

“Could not connect to license server.” Activation needs a network connection. Once a full licence is activated, CHAKRABOOST runs offline. The licence is active on too many machines. Each licence can be active on a limited number of machines. Click Remove License in CHAKRABOOST on a machine you no longer use, with that machine online, to free its activation, then activate again on the new one. If that machine is no longer available, contact support through nomn.jp. I bought a licence during the trial. Open the licence dialog from the footer, enter the purchased key in the License Key: field below the trial status and click Activate.

Surround output stays in stereo

  • Surround needs an output bus wider than stereo. Give the track or bus the number of channels your layout needs; on a stereo bus Surround behaves as Stereo.
  • Choose the layout matching your bus on the SPATIAL tab (5.1 for a 6-channel bus, for example). On a wider bus CHAKRABOOST starts with an even ring of speakers until you choose a layout.
  • In Reaper, open the track’s routing and set the track channel count, and check the plugin’s output pins.

The plugin opens with four outputs

On first insertion some hosts give CHAKRABOOST a four-channel output. Set the track or the plugin’s output configuration to stereo in your host if you are working in stereo.

The output is too loud or distorted

  • Watch the GR meter on the MIX tab. Above 6 dB of reduction (red), the limiter is working hard; lower OUT GAIN, or reduce Feedback, Resonance or band Gain on the loudest bands.
  • With Safety Mode set to Off, or to Soft Clip with SOFT CLIP off, nothing protects the output. Set Safety Mode back to Limit through host automation.
  • A band’s CLIP indicator (right edge of the band panel) shows which band is overloading. Click it to reset.

Problems in mono

Per-band panning moves frequency content between the channels, and summing the channels to mono partly cancels it. For mono-compatible output, set Depth X to 0 on every band, keep Phaser Mix low, check the fold, or run CHAKRABOOST on a send. Headphone Preview is intended for headphones and narrows on speakers.

The NOMN dot stays dark

The dot next to the NOMN heading lights when NOMN is ready. If it stays dark, bands set to NOMN run a triangle LFO at their Rate instead. Reinstall CHAKRABOOST and reload the plugin; if the dot still stays dark, contact support through nomn.jp.

Two renders of the same session sound different

NOMN restarts its motion from the session’s seed each time the transport starts, so its motion is the same in every render that starts at the same position, and a reopened session renders as it did when it was saved. A render started at a different bar follows the same motion from that new starting point, so it does not line up with a longer render. For motion that is locked to the bar wherever playback starts, set Mod Source to Tempo Sync on the bands where it matters; see Modulation.

Presets

A preset I saved on another machine is missing. Sync runs when the plugin window opens, after each save and when you choose Sync now. Check that both machines are signed in to the same nomn.jp account, and look at the sync status in the footer row. Presets larger than 256 KB are not synced. A preset seems to have disappeared after syncing. When a preset is replaced or deleted on another machine, the local copy moves to .presetcloud-trash/ inside the preset folder (a hidden folder; press Cmd-Shift-. in the macOS Finder to show it). A preset you deleted yourself with Delete preset… is in the Trash, or the Recycle Bin on Windows. “Your NOMN sign-in expired or was revoked.” Sign in again from the footer row. Loading a preset did not change my speaker layout. Presets do not store the layout. The layout is saved with the DAW session. Share preset asks for a public handle. Set one on your nomn.jp account page, then share again.
